The three established stars entertained the crowd first before contestant Amber Holcomb finally bowed out of the competition.
In recent weeks, the "American Idol" results shows have welcomed back some of their more successful alums such as past winners, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Scotty McCreery and Fantasia Barrino. On tonight's episode, the hit reality TV singing competition brought back season seven champion David Cook but since the current season is now almost in its final stretch, they had Black Eyed Peas' leader will.i.am and yesterday's mentor Harry Connick Jr. performing as well.
Cook returned anew to the "Idol" stage to sing his latest single "Laying Me Low", kicking off the night's musical performances. will.i.am then fueled up the audience with his performance of his contribution to the soundtrack of the soon-to-be-released film "The Great Gatsby", complete with his top hat costume, a similarly-outfitted dance crew and a 1920s-inspired lady back-up singer all helping him dish out the choreography-rich production.
Top four ladies mentor Connick fittingly took the stage last, before the announcement was made as to which three finalists would get to go visit their hometown next week. Connick, who had a minor issue with judge Randy Jackson the night before over Kree Harrison's "Stormy Weather" rendition, sang the title track of his forthcoming new album "Every Man Should Know".
Finally, as the episode winded down, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Amber Holcomb got the lowest combined votes both from last week's and yesterday's shows. Candice Glover and Angie Miller were both safe after two week's worth of viewer votes, leaving Holcomb and Harrison as the bottom two, with Holcomb, as it turned out, as the one with the lesser votes.
