The 17th annual Webby Awards which will be broadcast on May 21 has announced the list of the winners, that includes Obama campaign team, Justin Bieber and Lady GaGa.
The 2013 Webby Awards, which honors excellence on the Internet, announced the winners of its awards on Tuesday, April 30. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS) will present the awards on May 21, in an event which will be hosted by Patton Oswalt.
Webby Awards has chosen remarkable personals who made significant achievement in their fields via the internet. This year's winners include Justin Bieber, who got People's Voice Award for the social media campaigns after mobilizing his devoted fans to send videos of his song "Girlfriend" for his fragrance campaign. Another celebrity, Lady GaGa, won best celebrity-fan social presence.
Frank Ocean, the recipient of Person of the Year Award, was selected because his open letter "Thank You's" posted on Tumblr promoted dialogs and conversations related to discrimination in the hip-hop and R&B communities. The Awards presents Lifetime Achievement Award to the inventor of GIF file format Steve Wilhite.
Besides Ocean, other honorees are Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti. They received Special Achievement Award for their online drama series "House of Cards". The judges praised the duo for their successful effort to bring quality show to eager audience via digital streaming.
Breakout of the Year Award is presented to Obama for America 2012 team for its successful digital campaign for Obama in 2012. The team was said having great combination between "savvy political and tech genius" that became the weapon for Obama's reelection. Another award recipient, music artist Grimes, is said having big understanding about using internet as a distribution platform and medium to engage in meaningful dialogs with fans.
