The 'Valkyrie' scribe is attached to serve as the director as well as the writer for the remake of the Cold War thriller, which starred Rock Hudson.
Warner Bros. has hired Christopher McQuarrie to take a double duty in its upcoming film. Penning "The Wolverine" with Mark Bomback and Scott Frank, McQuarrie is set to take charge of "Ice Station Zebra" as a director and a scribe. The film is a remake of the Cold War film of the same title, directed by John Sturges in 1968.
Adapted from an Alistair McLean novel, the original film followed an American Naval submarine team that raced the Russians to retrieve sensitive photographic material in the Arctic. Starring Rock Hudson, the MGM film also included Patrick McGoohan, Ernest Borgnine and Jim Brown in the all-male cast ensemble.
Since the production is in early development stage, no start date has been set yet. It is also still unknown who will land a role in the remake.
McQuarrie is a frequent collaborator of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" helmer Bryan Singer. The two first teamed up in 1995's "The Usual Suspects", for which McQuarrie won an Oscar. They later regrouped in 2008's "Valkyrie", which starred A-list actor Tom Cruise, and recently in "Jack the Giant Slayer", released in last February.
McQuarrie's latest work "The Wolverine" is slated to hit theaters across the United States on July 24.
