A bevy of celebrities that include Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Banks, Claire Danes, Olivia Munn, Hayden Panettiere and Gerard Butler come to the event.
Obama's avid supporters in Hollywood flocked to the White House over the weekend to attend Correspondents' Dinner with Mr. President and First Lady Michelle Obama. The likes of Katy Perry, Sofia Vergara and Nicole Kidman were among those spotted coming to the formal gathering.
They stunned on the red carpet. Katy wore a stripped-down version of Giambattista Valli Fall 2012 Couture silk draped moss-green gown that was showcased with floor-length feather mantle and butterfly headpiece on the runaway. Still, she gave a touch of the original jungle state with a branch-like belt.
Sofia looked equally dazzling donning a teal-blue Herve L. Leroux gown with cut-out details on the front that showed just a hint of skin. The "Modern Family" beauty added an eye-popping color to her ensemble with a set of pink jewels courtesy of Lorraine Schwartz.
Nicole looked elegant in a lilac Emilio Pucci dress with embellishments from top to toe. She matched her full-beaded gown with simple make-up and accessories that consisted of Manolo Blahnik shoes, a creamy Bottega Veneta clutch and a pair of Fred Leighton earrings.
Elizabeth Banks chose a rust-colored Roland Mouret gown, Kerry Washington went monochromatic with a sweeping halter gown from Wes Gordon's Fall 2013 collection, Claire Danes picked a baby-blue Prada column gown with cutaway sides and glittery sequin embellishment.
Olivia Munn decided to go with a simple black dress with elaborately-embellished collar, while Hayden Panettiere turned heads with her gravity-defying yellow gown that had illusion mesh panels to give sideless and strapless effect.
Last but definitely not the least, the First Lady Michelle looked elegant in a black Monique Lhuillier chiffon gown with high neckline featuring delicate Chantilly lace and intricate jet-black stones. She finished off her look with a simple updo and her bangs.
Other guests included Amy Poehler, Scarlett Johansson, Robin Wright Penn, Connie Britton, Julie Bowen, Sophia Bush and Kate Mara. Spotted among the gentlemen of the evening were Gerard Butler, Michael Douglas and Conan O'Brien.
In his speech, Mr. President managed to address controversies surrounding Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles' trip to Cuba. "Some things are beyond my control. For example, this whole controversy about Jay-Z going to Cuba," he said. "It's unbelievable. I've got 99 problems and now Jay-Z's one."
The commander-in-chief also name-dropped Taylor Swift, "We need to make progress on some important issues. Take the sequester. Republicans fell in love with this thing, and now they can't stop talking about how much they hate it. It's like we're trapped in a Taylor Swift album."
