All-round entertainer Jamie Foxx may land a role that requires him to sing as well as act in his next project. The "Django Unchained" actor is reportedly in negotiations to star in "Annie", Sony's adaptation of Harold Gray's comic strip "Little Orphan Annie". Foxx is expected to act opposite Quvenzhane Wallis in the film.

"Little Orphan Annie", which was debuted in 1924 in the New York Daily News, tells the story of a little girl who, after escaping from an orphanage, is taken in by the rich Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks. If the deals are sealed, Foxx will play Benjamin Stacks, a variation of the Daddy Warbucks personage. Wallis, meanwhile, is cast as the titular character.

"Annie" will be co-produced by Will Smith through Overbrook Entertainment and by Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter through Marcy Media. "Friends with Benefits" helmer Will Gluck not only serves behind the lens, but also revises the film's screenplay, which was initially written by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna.

Set in the modern era, "Annie" is expected to make its way out onto U.S. theaters on December 25, 2014.

Currently shooting "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", Foxx will next be seen as a president in "White House Down, which will open across the nation on June 28.
